The Bible

So I wanted to do something this week that meant a little bit more... and I stumbled and bumbled and could never figure out what to do... I thought about doing something from the Lord of the Rings, and I know that would have been amazing and something that I would have been very proud of... but I knew that wasn't quite right... so what to do.

While I was talking with a friend he mentioned that he had never seen a Bible made out of Lego... I began almost immediately working on this then, that was it that was the meaningful thing that I could make, and I was very excited that I figured it out before time ran out in getting a project done for this week... of course I never said that there would be something every week, just that there would be two blog post with at least one update.

Now that I had decided to do a bible I had to figure out how in the world I was going to make it... I knew that it needed to open, because what good is a book that doesn't open?  So first I pulled out my hinges...

Then I began working on the front of the bible...

I figured that I had better write Bible on the front so that everyone would know that is was not just a regular book.  As you open the Bible however you start to see a different story unfold...
I chose to do this scene because I think that this is what the whole of the Bible is all about...

Matthew 28:1-6
1 Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. 3 His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4 The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. 5 Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.

It is in the resurrection that Christians can rely and know that there is life everlasting

1 Corinthians 15:3-4
3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.

So that is why I chose this as the vignette to be in my Lego Bible...

Next week something lighter... enjoy.

The Free Kick

For those of you that don't know, I am an avid world football fan, that is soccer to you silly Americans out there.  So for this week I have made a very nice outside of the box "Free kick".  I think that it is a very nice little vignette and not bad for my first micro.

I chose to use red and blue for the kits (uniforms) because most of the great city rivalries in football are red vs. blue... AC Milan V. Inter... Manchester United V. Manchester City... Arsenal V. Chelsea... I am sure that there are more but I thought that was enough to make my case.

Again I am sorry that this is rather late, but I had to wait for my wife to get home with the camera, and then I have been down sick for a couple of days... but here you go finally... the Free Kick!

Since you were so nice as to wait for that I will throw in a MOC (my own creation) for good measure.

no camera

So I need to make this post, though I am not sure that I can really count this one. But my wife went on a vacation to take our son to meet his great grand parents and thus took our only working camera with her.

I do have my weekly project completed but I have to wait for her to get home to be able to show you... I am going to let this count because I didn't have any choice...

So tomorrow, or Monday when my wife returns I will have pictures of a new micro-vignette!

Tuesday... I have to get started +

So it is Tuesday night and I am just getting home from church and I realize that I have yet to start on this weeks project. I do know what I want to do and I am pretty sure how I am going to do it... but that doesn't get the job done does it?   I will get started tomorrow and you will be excited to see it... this I command promise!

On another note, I was talking with a friend and with my wife and we decided that buying from ebay was like buying from a yard sale as long as certain rules were followed. Must be
1. A random lot
2. less than $10 shipped
3. Used
4. Too good to pass up :)

Following these rules I was able to acquire some very nice vehicle parts and I wanted to share with you...

I am pretty excited about this lot because I didn't have a lot of wheels and stuff before... I will keep you posted on all the lego goings on of my life.... til then

My Son's Smile

For those of you that don't know, I became a father for the first time(outside of his mother) on 12-21-09. My son, Kal-El Patrick Harrison, is such a wonderful little boy and the apple of his mother and my eye. Recently he has started really smiling at us and thought that could be a great visage for my first lego mosaic. So I took a picture of Kal-El.
I turned it and cropped it and edited it down until I had something like this...

it took a lot of playing and tweaking to get it where I could use just the colors that I had the most of in lego and still be able to recknogize my son when i looked it the picture. After I had this image all set up I just had to build it, starting with the platform for it to go on... This was more of a challenge than I thought it would be, I do not have as many baseplates as I needed and so i had to splice them together... here is the back of the final result so you can see what I was dealing with to get a 44x44 base for this image.
Finally getting the base built I took to laying the brick for the colors... it was not too difficult of a job but it was time consuming. I suggest you take it a row or column at the time instead of trying to do all of one color, because it is very easy to get confused. Anyway here is the final result...

You can see a lager version of it here.

Next week I will be doing something football related as the Champions League will be starting back.

Oops

So I am sorry that I have been kind of aloof for a couple of days, I don't know what exactly has been going though my mind but I promise that there is a new project on the way.

I am working on what I think will be a very cool mosaic... and I know that lego mosaics are a little bit of a cop out but I promise that this one will be worth waiting for... err I think so at least.

Thanks for those of you that have been visiting and I hope that you have a great day... until I have some pictures to show you I will sign out.

I have the capacity for great HOPE...

Currently in the DC universe there is a "War of Light" happening... It started with the Green Lantern Corps and has spread to every hue of the emotional spectrum (promise that I am not making this up). We all know that Green is the color of willpower and Yellow is the color of fear... but what of the other colors...
dannysmicros over at DeviantArt gives us a little visual aid

Looking at this emotional spectrum I started to think about which corps I would fit into the best... if you catch me while I am in the middle of a game of FIFA or watching an AC Milan game you might well think that I belong to the Red corps of rage, if you saw me looking at my beautiful baby boy and my wonderful wife you might say pink or violet. In the lego store it would defiantly be Orange... but I think throughout my life I have lived with the great hope that everything will always work out for the best. It is that hope that gets me through the day... so I decided for this weeks project to make a

Blue Lantern Power Battery

This was the basic reference picture that I worked off... drop a line and let me know what you think.

This took all but 4 of the blue lego that I own stands 8.5 inches tall and took almost 6 hours to build (because I had to go back after completing the sphere to rebuild the better part of it with white bricks on the inside so that I would have enough blue to finish the outside.

If anyone knows how to make a smaller sphere that does not use specialty bricks please let me know...Oh, and special thanks to phantalien over at HCrealms.com for the idea to do a lantern.

If you have an idea that you would like to see me attempt in lego drop me an email or a comment
